The Quietness of a Snow Day

Awakened even earlier than my usual four o’clock in the morning . There’s something about the quietness of falling snow and the darkness of the night being held by a magical , soothing light of falling white flakes . Cozy inside and watching the delicate snow is both soothing and exciting .

It brings forward the happy memories of being a child and waking up in the night to a blanket of snow covering the streets . A bit of moon light shining across the white making it practically sparkle and crisp , cold air against my face was invigorating . I would open a small window and stick my head to feel the snow and try to catch a snowflake on my tongue .

It always felt magical especially in the middle of the night . I loved way it gave our busyness a break . it would ask , if not demand , that we slow down . To break free of our routine and to experience life a bit differently .

The joy of a snow day remains in my heart and waits each year to be re awakened .

The Nature of Creativity

The freedom and the rootedness in the creative purpose , in silence or in a ruckus , it reveals . It is an undoing . A dedicated foray into the unknown and an act of putting the formless into form .

It is love without time or space .

Freedom …Where Is It ?

Independence implies freedom from oppression . And as I listen to the sounds fireworks celebrating independence I can’t help but think of the freedoms recently lost in a United States Supreme Court by justices nominated by an authoritian , egomaniac and his political sycophants .

I can’t help but think of the Ukrainian people and how the same sounds are terrifying as they fight for their lives and freedoms .

Freedom requires that all people participate . Active participation . Vote , write letters , call representatives , sign petitions and walk , march and demonstrate . The problem with that is that so many of us are simply exhausted just trying to survive . And that’s what happens when the divide amongst the people with opportunity ( education, healthcare , nutrtion and career opportunities ) and those that don’t is too great .

Do we have the to vote ? Yes , but when people can’t physically get to a polling place to do so because they can’t leave a low paying job in order to cast their vote …well , where is the freedom in that ?

When the premise of a society , a culture and a government is driven by love of money then we are creating a free society but rather one of suffering .

It is not too late . We still have the ability to evolve and be better and do better .

Remembering the Joy of Quietness

A meditative place where hymns of renewal and release breathe .

Where space for calmness and peace reside .

Free from pushing and pulling and instead feel the rhythm of my heart beating

and soothed by breathing .

In the joy of quietness I am charmed by the birds singing and by the light dancing with

her shadows .

Remembering the joy of quietness I am free .
